Sumitava Maity is an artist of outstanding technical ability He was born in 1980 and graduated with 1st class honours B.V.A. (Painting) from Govt. College of Art & Craft in 2003.

His depiction of typical street scenes from his native Calcutta capture the very essence of urban life in the 'City of Joy' where time moves on more slowly than in most Indian metros and the atmosphere seems to envelope locals and visitors alike.

As early as 1994 Sumitava won a prestigious national award and more recently he gained a Certificate of Merit at the State Charukala Parishad. His works feature in many collections in India and abroad.
