Born in West Bengal in 1971 Rajib Chowdhury graduated with a 1st in BFA from College of Arts And Crafts, Calcutta followed by Post Diploma in Graphics from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Baroda. His work has been exhibited at India's foremost national galleries and his attainments include the AIFACS Award, New Delhi, the Bombay Art Society Award and a National Scholarship from Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Culture.
Rajib's subject matter is typified by high rise buildings dwarfing inhabitants that seem to strive to gain an area of freedom however minimal it might be. His sparse palette gives a subtle use of colour which harmonises with the backdrop that is naturally afforded by blank Indian skies. The use of hand made paper gives an underlying raw and rugged tone to his compositions.
