Hukum Lal Varma born in 1970 and the influences on his artistic style are rooted in an essentially rural culture of the north Indian state of Madhya Pradesh where he obtained his MFA in Creative Painting from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidylaya Khaiagarh.  The use of colour and space reflect a bold interplay between elemental forces of nature termed as “Ananda” or “Anandi”.

The vibrancy of work has won widespread recognition within India through a series of exhibitions from 1992 up to the present day and in 2003 he received the prestigious AIFACS Award. His works feature in many permanent exhibitions in India as well as in private collection in many parts of the world including US, France, Benelux, Germany and Finland.
