Debashish Garai was born in 1976 and unlike most of Mood Indya's chosen artists in essentially self taught. His early interest in painting developed from a pastime until 1998 when his work gained recognition in a group show at the Academy of Fine Art in Calcutta. Untrammeled by the tutelage which may have restricted his choice of subject matter he gives his expression free rein in recording the highs and lows of India life through scenes from the ghats of Varansi to the lush greenery of West Bengal.
Note how he often draws our attention to detail of his minimalist figures with the use of bright and contrasting colours. His work in increasingly sought after and features in numerous private collections in India, U.S. and U.K.
